Effective and Low-Maintenance IMTA System as Effluent Treatment Unit for Promoting Sustainability in Coastal Aquaculture

نویسندگان

چکیده

Integrated multitrophic aquaculture (IMTA) is a versatile technology emerging as an ecological and sustainable solution for traditional monoculture aquacultures in terms of effluent treatment. Nevertheless, IMTA still poorly applied industry due to, among other reasons, the lack effective, low-investment low-maintenance solutions. In this study, one has developed practical low maintenance IMTA-pilot system, settled semi-intensive coastal aquaculture. The optimisation performance system was validated using Ulva spp., macroalgae that naturally grows fishponds local Several cultivation experiments were performed at lab-scale static mode. specific growth rate (SGR), yield, nutrient removal, N C enrichment, protein pigment content monitored. spp. successfully thrived from fish species sea bream (Sparus aurata) bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) production tanks significantly reduced inorganic load effluent, particularly, NH4+, PO43− NO3−. enrichment nitrogen spp.’s tissues indicated assimilation by algae, though, cultivated showed lower amounts pigments comparison to wild type. This study indicates designed efficient treatment suitable remediator.

assessing metacognitive awareness and learning strategies as positive predictors in promoting l2 learners’ reading comprehension

the purpose of this thesis was to investigate how differently metacognitive, cognitive, and social/affective strategies affect l2 learners’ reading comprehension. to this end, the study employed a quasi-experimental design with a placement test as a proficiency test to find the homogeneity of groups. three classes were randomly selected as the experimental groups (n =90), and each class was tau...

Economic Evaluation of Hydroponics and Other Treatment Options for Phosphorus Removal in Aquaculture Effluent

HORTSCIENCE, VOL. 35(6), OCTOBER 2000 Consumer demand for fish has been increasing despite declining ocean fish catches. Aquaculture, the cultivation of freshwater and marine plants and animals, is one of the fastest growing segments of U.S. agriculture. In the period from 1987 to 1992, sales of farm-raised trout increased by almost 20% to over $80 million in the United States (Terlizzi et al.,...

Increased Production and Water Remediation by Land-Based Farm-Scale Sequentially Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture Systems—An Example from Southern Taiwan

Wastewater effluent from aquaculture ponds can affect aquatic ecosystems. To mitigate this problem, we designed 2 sets (southern and northern) of land-based and farm-scale sequential integrated multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA) systems in order to reduce water pollution and to diversify and optimize aquaculture products in coastal southern Taiwan. In each system, the 1st pond cultivated milkfish...

Verification of Monitor unit calculations for eclipse Treatment Planning System by in- house developed spreadsheet

Introduction: Computerized treatment planning is a rapidly evolving modality that depends on hardware and software efficiency. Despite ICRU recommendations suggesting 5% deviation in dose delivery the overall uncertainty shall be less than 3.5% as suggested by B.J. Minjnheer. J. In house spreadsheets are developed by the medical physicists to cross-verify the dose calculated by the Treatment Pl...
